Our Story
We can only dream as far as what is known to us. Coming from diverse backgrounds and having delved into different careers, we all agree that we wouldn't be who we are today professionally, if we weren't aware of the existence of such professions. As humans, we see, we admire, we imagine, we aspire. Unfortunately however, only a few are priviledged with the access to knowledge. A large percentage of kids brought up in disadvantaged communities in Kenya, take up professions or rather jobs they see in the slums because that is all they know. In the long run, we end up having a lot of wasted potential, not because of lack of capabilty but merely the lack of knowledge. Consequently, the gap between the social classes increases exponentially with no hope of getting lower. We as Page Turners, are working relentlessly to reduce this gap. We aim to give these little minds a shot in life, a chance in the fast oncoming world. We do this by establishing libraries in underprivileged communities, providing them with books to source knowledge from. We help them establish a reading culture and an open mind. We also hold mentorship sessions with the kids, all intended to expose them to knowledge that has not been made available to them, and to help them make better decisions. Knowledge is power. We not only aim to improve their professional lives but that these kids may have wholistic and all rounded growth.
As they say, leaders read and readers lead.
